Groupage transport primarily enables the minimization of transport costs (by grouping) of several shipments on one vehicle, and as such makes it difficult to precisely define the transit time of each individual shipment from loading to unloading.
Several places of loading and reloading in order to optimize transport costs in the organization of this mode of international transport require packaging of the shipment adapted to mechanical handling, and precise determination of the packaging dimensions of each individual shipment as well as of the gross weight of goods.
The cargo area of each means of transport is determined by two items, namely the dimensions of cargo area and its carrying capacity. By combining these two items, we get a unit of the billable weight of each shipment.
The billable weight is a unit of measure in groupage transport and differs from the actual gross weight of the goods.
